Neighborhood markets aren’t the only places to shop for essentials
Zylberschtein's
Pinehurst’s Jewish deli features sourdough, rye bread, babkas, and challah among its more popular items in its “daily bread section.” There are also bagels, cream cheeses, sandwiches, bake at home cookies, soups, meat by the pound, and pantry staples (like eggs, coffee, and Cairnspring Milling flour) available for weekly delivery throughout the Seattle area.

Cafe Juanita
Kirkland’s Northern Italian fine-dining mainstay launched its first full-fledged takeout service during the pandemic, as well as anextensive pantrywith olive oil, cheeses, poultry stock, and even sourdough starters. Those who want an easy meal should check out the ready-to-cook pasta selections, best paired with one of the restaurant’s excellent wines.
The Shambles
This restaurant/butcher shop/bar hybrid in Maple Leaf still offers made-to-order takeout meals (as well as limited dine-in), but it also heavily emphasizes its case filled withhigh-quality meat selections. Among the rotating items have been Pure Country short ribs, ducks from Grays Harbor, and steaks a-plenty, plus pickles, oils, and ferments.

Star chef Edouardo Jordan’s acclaimed Southern-influenced restaurant in Ravenna shifted to takeout and retail early on in the pandemic and has never really looked back. The restaurant has an excellent selection of items ideal for baking, including ancient grain pancake mix, ingredients for Red Flint cornbread, and sorghum syrup.

Chef Eric Rivera is no stranger to trying new things, and his Ballard restaurant has adjusted to current conditions by experimenting with a variety of options, including now a full-fledged retail section. There are several pantry options that feature a selection of hot sauces, cooking oils, and dry goods (some of which are available for nationwide shipping). And the sazón is sensational.
The Whale Wins Larder and Cafe
Chef Renee Erickson’s former sit-down restaurant transformed into a fast-casual counter service spot and grocer in 2020, without missing much of a beat. Here, shoppers can find charcuterie, cheese, wine, and fresh pasta, as well as a selection of full made-to-order meals. Open for takeout, limited dine-in, and delivery is available throughGrubHub.
Hitchcock
Microseasonal in its approach and therefore obsessive about its preservation techniques,Hitchcockin Bainbridge Island (currently closed as a restaurant) offers subscriptions toCSA (Community Supported Agriculture) boxes, which feature produce from farms around the Olympic Peninsula, foraged mushrooms, dry-aged beef, and more. There’s abakery now, too.
L'Oursin
First Hill’s acclaimed French bistro has built a reputation as a destination for natural wine, and it does have sit-down experiences. But the restaurant has also leaned into market retail, with charcuterie, French cheeses, desserts, sauces, tinned seafood, and vegetables sourced from local farms. There are also plenty of to-go cocktails available, too.
Archipelago
Hillman City’s acclaimed Filipino fine dining restaurant offers Balikbayan boxes: a combination of seasonal pantry items packaged with the restaurant’s usual thoughtfulness and flair for narrative. The Ruby Brink
瓦遜島的屠夫shop-restaurant -bar hybrid is open for groceries and takeout items from a rotating menu, including a stellar dry aged beef burger available on Wednesdays. On the butcher’s block are selections such as rib eye, New York strip, filet minot, short ribs, and bottom roasts, and there are staples like eggs, flour, butter, and beets for sale from local farms.
