Popular Dochi Doughnuts Part of New Food Court in Tukwila

Despite the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic for Seattle restaurants, a few popular International District places are in expansion mode.Dochi Doughnuts,Vietnam House, andGoPokehave joined the offerings at the newLam’s Seafood Marketin Tukwila, Washington, along with Beacon Hill dim sum specialistGolden Daisy. They’re open for takeout services at a food court called Lam’s Eatery.

Lam’s Seafood Market added its Tukwila outpost with a Grand Opening May 30, marking the International District grocer’s first ever expansion south of Seattle. Lam’s startedout as a small shop on Main Street in 1991, and has been at its current King Street location for over a decade. So the Tukwila spot is a big step for the market on its own.

It may have even more interest with the food court heavy hitters. Dochi, in particular, had been drawing lines for its mochi-doughnut hybrids at its Uwajimaya stand since last summer, before the pandemic hit Seattle in mid-March. The dessert shop closed that location during Washington’s stay-at-home mandate, but has quietly opened its outpost at Lam’s Tukwila over the past week for to-go orders with limited hours.

Dochi’s owner, Jason Le,is the brother of the siblings that founded GoPoke, so it seems only natural that the two would be neighbors at the new food court. The Tukwila GoPoke location is open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. right now for takeout, but the International District outpost is still closed temporarily.

Meanwhile, Vietnam House has been an International District mainstay for years, known for its broken rice dishes, including one with a grilled pork chop, shrimp on sugar cane, deep-fried bean curd, and a fried egg. While its original location is currently offering takeout now from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., diners should check Lam’s Seafood Market’sFacebook page for details on temporary hours in Tukwila.
