- Following last month’scritical net failureat a Puget Sound fish farm that released thousands of invasive Atlantic salmon into local waters, protestors are urging Governor Jay Inslee to ban net-pen fish farming altogether in Washington. Big-name restaurateurs are adding their voices to the protestors’, with chefs like The Walrus and the Carpenter’s Renee Ericksoncalling the practice“隻是惡心。”
- Gig Harbor-based Heritage Distilling, award-winning producer of spirits like Brown Sugar Bourbon, continues to grow. In addition to last year’s expansion in Eugene, Oregon, a retail space coming this fall to Roslyn, Washington, anda Capitol Hill tasting roomcurrently slated for 2018, the company announced it will be one of the tenants in theCraft Brewing and Distilling Centerin Tumwater, Washington, opening a new 11,000-square-foot production facility and shop next fall.
- Greenwood’s Munch Café (8576 Greenwood Ave N), which often ran food next door to customers at Flying Bike Cooperative Brewery, is closed; a handwritten sign on the storefront says, “Coming soon! Japanese sushi and food.”
- The Ballard location of local diner chain Skillet,closedfor much of the summer due to flood damage, reopens Monday, October 2 with an expanded patio — sadly, a little past prime outdoor season — and the company’s fall menu, including dishes like roasted pumpkin and quinoa salad and a hand pie filled with Comice pear and ginger.
- Starting September 30, The Lakehouse, chef Jason Wilson’s new “modern Northwest farmhouse” restaurant in Bellevue, adds brunch Saturdays and Sundays 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. The menu includes dishes like a Dungeness crab and avocado Benedict as well as chocolate coffee flour pancakes, using the Coffeeflour brand thatWilson is involved with.
