China Orchid in the Riverbend neighborhood has been around for more than 25 years, first opened by the mother of Joe Ming, proprietor of Ming’s in Lakeview. Ming’s mother, Susan, taught him how to cook Chinese food in the kitchen of the family-owned Uptown restaurant, which changed hands in 1992. It’s still a neighborhood go-to for Chinese takeout, with an extensive menu and third-party delivery available.

Lebanon’s Cafeis consistently good, serving traditional specialties in a pretty dining area and outside patio. Portions are large, the rosemary lamb chops are a treat and the just-right homemade hummus is creamy with tahini. Open for dine-in, takeout, and delivery via Doordash, Grubhub, and Waitr.

With a number of longtime Vietnamese restaurants closing in recent years, it’s heartening to see a new, modern Vietnamese option for downtown workers and city residents alike. Find Bao Mi in the Louisiana State University Health Foundation building, Monday through Friday from 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., closed weekends.

McHardy’s is the spot for chicken, anywhere from a 10-piece to a 100-piece (or get wings, nuggets, catfish, shrimp, or burgers). Pickups are quick and easy, but this beloved Broad Street spot is also on all the third-party apps.

Paulie Gee’s is a fabled Brooklyn pizzeria that’s expanded outside of New York with multiple locations, including Baltimore, Columbus, Ohio, and Chicago. The Warehouse District shop serves 20-inch, neo-Neapolitan thin-crust pies and rectangular, Sicilian-style pizza, also served by the slice daily, and delivers via third-party apps.

Located in the Seventh Ward on Claiborne, J’s serves up honey heat, Jamaican jerk, Sriracha lemon pepper wings, and more along with perfect fries. It’s shipping container locale is built for takeout and delivery orders, and it’s on all the apps.

Verti Marte is the French Quarter’s longtime neighborhood deli, known for its breakfast, extensive menu of sandwiches, no-nonsense counter service, and 24/7 hours, a top late-night eats destination. It’s loved equally for the hot sausage po’ boy, a sloppy roast beef version made with a secret sauce, and the All That Jazz, a po’ boy stuffed with a stack of grilled turkey, ham, American and Swiss cheeses, fried shrimp, sautéed mushrooms, and “wow sauce.” Best of all, it offers free delivery to the French Quarter, Marigny, and Central Business District.
