When the nights are long, the house is chaotic, and every sacred space in the abode is overflowing with suitcases, it's time to escape to a bar. Any bar will do. With lots of alcohol. To hang with friends or with nobody at all. To drink an adult beverage and not have another sip of sugar-laden punch.

Fortunately, some places open their doors to grownups so they can escape their holiday hovels, if only temporarily. Hotel bars are a safe bet since they don't close just because it's the holidays. And dive bars are often welcoming regulars and non-regulars alike during this stressful time of year.
