Chef With Awesome Boston Resume Opens Takeout Spot in West Roxbury

Burke has partnered with local farmers and producers to stock the pantries of Johnny’s Takeaway, and his menu includes items like tomato soup, farro and arugula salad, salmon with roasted Brussels sprouts, fried chicken, and steak tip salad. Weeknight meals range from about $14 to $18, while soups and salads go for about $6 to $9. The menu changes weekly, and both single-serving meals and family dinners are available.

“We’re not sacrificing flavor for health, and we’re also not sacrificing health for flavor,” Burke says in a video about the new business. He’s using recyclable takeout packaging that can be heated in either the oven or the microwave.

To get food from Johnny’s Takeaway, customers can place orders online or swing by the base in the former BakerBaker space near the VA hospital.

Prior to launching Johnny’s Takeaway, Burke put his name behind another business: a catering and consulting services company, Johnny Burke Catering & Consulting, where he offered a range of services, from private dinners to wedding catering. He has also worked as a personal chef and operated a meal delivery service in the Boston suburbs.
